Grass raking: The Great Grassland Work-Out

Saturday 24 June 2023
10:00 to 12:00

Come and join us this weekend - do as much (or as little) as you wish! The Hampton Heath kick-about area has been mown short this week, so this week’s potential tasks include everyone’s favouritešŸ˜¬:

  • Raking up grass cuttings - essential to reducing the vigour of coarse grasses (which outcompete most wildflowers) by preventing nutrients being recycled… and a great workout!

  • Litter - Laughing gas cannisters and balloons earlier in the week: There’s always some…

  • Paths - Continuing to tackle the spreading bramble, and in some places high, coarse grasses too.

  • Wildlife recording - productive use of time while taking a breather!

  • Informal wooden seats and signs - If we get this far, move some of the previously cut oak rounds to public areas - and (hopefully) reduce people’s desire to move the reptile survey tiles

WHEN: From 10am SATURDAY (24th June) until around midday.

WHERE: Meet at the goalpost, rear of David Lloyd as usual. Over to David Lloyd for free tea/coffee or cold drinks at around 12.

WHO: Anyone and everyone. As always, please bring some protective gloves, sensible footwear, sunscreen, drinking water etc. and children must be accompanied.

WHAT: We provide the litter-pickers/bags as always, and as many tools as I can barrow, but if you have your own secateurs, rake, strimmer or hedge trimmer (battery), please do bring them along.

Don’t forget, you can subscribe to the Hampton Heath Friends calendar for up to date information in your Outlook or Calendar app.

Hope to see you on SATURDAY!
