SUNDAY working Group

Sunday 05 November 2023
10:00 to 12:00

This weekend… SUNDAY Working Group

This week (depending on numbers) we’ll be active on the following:

  • “Mosaic” grass cutting: Continuing the cut, rake and remove process which will improve species diversity and promote precious “Lowland Acid Grassland” (LAG) habitat… the winter cut/remove means LESS fertile soil, which means MORE wildflowers and fungi.

  • Wildflower planting: This week, (if I can fit them on the barrow!) we have:

    • Creeping Cinquefoil (a bit like a yellow-flowering wild-strawberry - these are found on site, but we can help increase their distribution, and make them more visible from the paths).

    • Mouse Ear Hawkweed (a LAG favourite, because it reduces the vigour of coarse grasses - hairy leaves, yellow daisy flowers, popular with butterflies and hoverflies).

  • Paths: Uxbridge Road Path - Continuing to strim back vegetation - to open out the path, to improve visibility and access - and so we get a repeat of the amazing wildflowers we had there this spring.

  • Litter-picking: Of course, keeping up with the litter, generally.

WHEN: From 10am SUNDAY 5th November until around midday. Over to David Lloyd for free tea/coffee or cold drinks at around 12.

WHERE: Meet at the goalpost, rear of David Lloyd as always. Map

WHO: Anyone and everyone is welcome. As always, please bring some protective gloves, sensible footwear, drinking water etc. and under 18s must be accompanied.

WHAT: We provide litter-pickers/bags as always, and as many tools as fit in the barrow, but if you have secateurs, rake, strimmer or hedge-trimmer (battery), please do bring them along.

Don’t forget, you can subscribe to the Hampton Heath Friends calendar for up to date information in your Outlook or Calendar app. and we have further information on our website.

Hope to see you on SUNDAY!
